26 For patients with confirmed or suspected COVID-19 who need to receive emergency or urgent dental care, various treatment guidelines have been developed and continue to be updated by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 5, 25 the American Dental Association (ADA), 27 the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), 28 the World Health Organization (WHO) 12 and others to prevent spread of infection. Guidelines 25 recommend that elective care for dental patients with confirmed or suspected COVID-19 be deferred until the patient meets criteria for discontinuation of home isolation. 23 Hence, even asymptomatic dental patients should be considered as potential carriers and therefore it is recommended to implement a routine screening process for both patients and staff, to ensure that both symptomatic and recently exposed individuals stay home for the safety of all patients and dental team members. 22 Additionally, the majority of people infected with SARS-CoV-2 may have no symptoms or symptoms that resemble seasonal allergies or influenza, contributing to a significant number of undiagnosed cases. COVID-19’s incubation period can range from 2-14 days (median, 4 days), 21 and, while the virus is known to be highly transmissible when patients are most symptomatic, transmission can occur before any symptoms are apparent. 20 Preventing the spread of SARS-CoV-2 requires new management strategies that may differ from those used to manage other diseases. Infection control and prevention in the dental office settingĭental professionals are very familiar with occupational health issues and corresponding risk assessments in order to reduce risk, 19 and with applying Standard Precautions for minimizing spread of infection directly or through cross-contamination. Some dental procedures may lead to aerosol generation, further increasing transmission risk to dental providers or future patients through direct inhalation or contact with contaminated surfaces. 15,17 The widespread transmission of SARS-CoV-2 in many communities, 18 the potential for infected individuals who are pre-symptomatic or asymptomatic to transmit the virus to others, and the unique nature of dental interventions with close proximity of the provider to the patient’s mouth and throat, all contribute to the high risk for dental personnel teams becoming exposed and transmitting the virus to other patients or staff. 11,12 Importantly, emerging evidence shows that normal breathing and talking can produce small droplets that are subject to aerosol transport and that aerosolized SARS-CoV-2 particles can remain suspended in the air for several hours, 13-16 although it is unclear how much aerosol spread contributes to viral transmission. The virus that causes COVID-19, SARS-CoV-2, is profusely present in nasopharyngeal and salivary secretions of patients infected with SARS-CoV-2, 8-10 and is believed to be spread primarily through respiratory droplets, as well as aerosols and fomites. This will be a challenging task given the uncertainty surrounding the timeline for complete resolution of this pandemic. As the pandemic is not yet fully in the rearview mirror, it is also important that we look beyond treating urgent dental care needs and understand how to safely and effectively resume routine dental care for our patients and find creative ways to care for dental patients who are reluctant to come to the dental office for the foreseeable future. 1-3 As states authorized the resumption of routine dental care, 4 discussion centered on how to provide safe oral healthcare, 5-7 care that has been defined in a previous PSNet perspective, given the nature of the virus and how easily it may be dispersed during common dental procedures. The outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) effectively shut down approximately 198,000 active dentists and dental specialists in the USA.

Today, pottery thrives as an art form in India. Small simple kulhar cups, and also oil lamps, that are disposable after a single use remain common. Hindu traditions historically discouraged the use of pottery for eating off, while large matki jars for the storage of water or other things form the largest part of traditional Indian pottery, as well as objects such as lamps. Until recent times all Indian pottery has been earthenware, including terracotta.Įarly glazed ceramics were used for making beads, seals, bangles during Neolithic period but these glazes were very rarely used on pottery. Today, it is a cultural art that is still practiced extensively in Indian subcontinent. Evidence of pottery has been found in the early settlements of Lahuradewa and later the Indus Valley civilization. Pottery in the Indian subcontinent has an ancient history and is one of the most tangible and iconic elements of Indian art. They continue to improve their style, methods and designs, often combining traditional and contemporary techniques to create striking new works of art.Potteries on display in Dilli Haat market, New Delhi, India. Today, Pueblo potters continue to honor this centuries-old tradition of hand-coiled pottery production, yet value the need for contemporary artistic expression as well. Pottery is left to bake for many hours, producing a high-fired result. While some Pueblo artists fire in kilns, most still fire in the traditional way in an outside fire pit, covering their vessels with large potsherds and dried sheep dung. Making pueblo pottery is a time-consuming effort that includes gathering and preparing the clay, building and shaping the coiled pot, gathering plants to make the colored dyes, constructing yucca brushes, and, often, making a clay slip. Pueblo potters also produce undecorated polished black ware, black on black ware, and carved red and carved black wares. Among them are black on cream, black on buff, black on red, dark brown and dark red on white (as found in Zuni pottery), matte red on red, and polychrome-a number of natural colors on one vessel (most typically associated with Hopi). Designs are painted on before firing, traditionally with a brush fashioned from yucca fiber.ĭifferent combinations of paint color, clay color, and slips are characteristic of different pueblos. Before firing, potters in some pueblos apply a light colored slip to their pottery, which creates a bright background for painted designs or simply a lighter color plain ware vessel. Some paints are derived from plants, others from minerals. Tempering materials and paints, also from natural sources, contribute further to the distinctiveness of each pueblo’s pottery. Painted designs vary from pueblo to pueblo, yet share an ancient iconography based on abstract representations of clouds, rain, feathers, birds, plants, animals and other natural world features. Fired pots are sometimes left plain and other times decorated-most frequently with paint and occasionally with appliqué. Various clays gathered from each pueblo’s local sources produce pottery colors that range from buff to earthy yellows, oranges, and reds, as well as black. Although each of these pueblos use similar traditional methods of coiling, shaping, finishing and firing, the pottery from each is distinctive. In the four-corners region of the US, nineteen pueblos and villages have historically produced pottery. “Pueblo pottery is made using a coiled technique that came into northern Arizona and New Mexico from the south, some 1500 years ago. more or regular) We also have NEW special effect colors listed below. You will need Mac-specific antivirus software designed to work with the unique demands of macOS in order to protect that new Mac. However, malicious programs targeting Macs and MacBook Pros have not only become increasingly common, but also more potent. The macOS operating system is Unix-based, which is sandboxed so it can be challenging for viruses to do any real damage. Download the tips as a PDF you can read or a podcast you can listen to from this link. There’s an enormous potential target out there that is irresistible to hackers and cybercriminals considering the sheer amount of Mac and MacBook owners around the world. the Lee recommendations are aimed at preventing data theft. Many seem to be attempts to link dire warnings - the sky is falling in! - to sales of unneeded anti-virus software for Macs, but where there's smoke. I have read dozens of these over the last four years and still await an actual virus. This is a result of yet another warning from a security group, this time his own (Sophos). In Appendix A 'Security Checklist' page 112, Apple recommends various options for those running OS X server (like creating a digital signature and enabling security auditing) and concludes that users should install an antivirus tool and configure it to automatically download virus definition files.įinally, there are actually ten recommendations for Mac users doing the rounds - they are by Graham Lee, the senior software engineer at Sophos where he is technical leader for the Mac team. Intrusion Detection Systems are mentioned too, complete with a link for more information (Intrusion Protection Using Open Source Tools). There's a whole section on Mail Security on page 147. Apple says ".don't download or open content you didn't request, and never open a file sent to you by someone you don't know." It's obvious advice, but 'we're' (Mac users) only used to hearing it being offered to PC users. Romo stated, interestingly, that 78% of viruses were now targeted at the web layer rather than the application layer - a worry as more and more user tasks are carried out in the web layer by Google Apps etc.īut I must admit I deleted NAV after three months if it finding narry a sausage.įor the first time in ages, Apple also recommends not opening weird email attachments - for a while the only risk in these was in forwarding them to PC users, where they could do damage. Yeah.īut Microsoft Office 2008 dropped Macros, so. It was fast and much less intrusive than previous versions I had tried, and I actually interviewed Mike Romo from Symantec on NAV for Mac, and he said "we obviously protect against the (few) Mac viruses and Trojan horses out there, and we take care of Macro viruses as well, which can actually prove to be very annoying for Mac users". I personally installed the fast, unobtrusive iAntiVirus Mac beta to give it a whirl [It's by PC Tools - it's still free and seems to do the job, although it's found nothing in a month, but I also trialled the impressive Norton Anti Virus earlier this year, in January. Apple also lists CA AntiVirus r8.1 (retail), the free ClamXav [and the Norton-branded Mac offerings. Note that Avast needs a one-year, two-year (save 25%) or three-year (save 35%) payment one year costs USD$39.95, about $53. The PDF even mentions a link: "For a list of antivirus tools, see the Macintosh Products Guide at Look under the Networking and Security heading on the left - when I looked, 'avast! antivirus Mac edition 2.7.4' had been downloaded from the Apple site 16,744 times. These tools quickly identify suspicious content and compare them to known malicious content." In the downloadable PDF Leopard Security Config 20080530, Apple says (page 204) "Installing antivirus tools helps prevent infection of your computer by viruses, and helps prevent your computer from becoming a host used to spread viruses to other computers. It must be noted that the advice is not aimed at stock Mac users, but rather at those tech-types running Mac-based networks. OK, I was being flippant, but the times they are a changin' and even Apple has begun recommending anti-viral software for the first time in years. If it's viruses you want to avoid - don't get a PC. Although a clam, its long, thin body makes most people mistake it for a worm. What’s more, Haygood notes, even people in the Philippines “were unfamiliar with this giant one that lives in the mud.”įor 300 years, scientists had known of the strange giant ( Kuphus polythalamia). They called it ‘pure kitschy fun’, while also mentioning that ‘There’s not much to it, but its charm and high level of ridiculousness will keep you smiling the whole way through’.Her team’s new data show that the giant shipworms evolved traits quite different from their smaller kin. Slidetoplay also included Super Mega Worm as number 34 in their list of the ‘50 Best iPhone games of 2010’. While Levi Buchanan of IGN stated "It’s absolutely bizarre – the humor and WTF scenarios are truly funny – but unlike so many other weird games, Super Mega Worm is actually fun to play for more than five minutes".Ĭhris Reed of Slidetoplay also states that "There’s not much to it, but its charm and high level of ridiculousness will keep you smiling the whole way through". The iOS version of Super Mega Worm has generally received mixed reviews from review sites. In order to celebrate the release of their new game, Recess Riot, Deceased Pixel made Super Mega Worm free for a limited time during October 2012. The DLC was made available through the app store for $0.99. This paid update gives the player a more powerful worm and an extra song. Recently, Deceased Pixel have introduced the ‘Mecha Wojira’ paid DLC for both the original game and the Christmas edition. Updates have also added achievements which can be tracked though Apple's Game Center, and made the game a universal app meaning it can run on both an iPhone/iPod touch or an iPad without the user having to buy two separate apps. The game also now supports the iPad gaming unit, the iCade. Originally the game could only be played with a slider along the bottom of the screen which either made the worm move up or down but now it can be controlled with an on screen D-pad or by tilting the Accelerometer. Over time it has been given many updates which have added features such as new control schemes. Super Mega Worm was initially released for iOS on August 26, 2010. Since Super Mega Worm was first released on Augit has gone through a variety of updates to improve performance and add new features. Another game was also released going by the name of Super Mega Worm Vs Santa which adds 15 levels, a boss fight with Santa, some new items, 3 new abilities and 2 new game modes. The DLC that was released for the game, Mecha Worjira, allows the player to use a new playable character with a new skin and some new features, such as no dying from hunger infinite death beam homing missiles instant space jump and a special theme song. The first via the use of a slider, second by tilting the iPhone and lastly by using the D-Pad that was added in via a Patch. The player can control the worm in three different ways. The power-ups that the player gains access to consist of speed boosts, a fiery projectiles that is shot from the worms mouth and an Electromagnetic Pulse that shut downs any machines in the area around the worm. As the player progresses through the levels, they can obtain power ups that will assist them in completing their objective, this also has the effect of enlarging the worm. In order for the player to progress to the next level you have to eat a certain number of humans which increases with every level. The worm's health decreases as the game goes on, in order to combat this the player can replenish it by eating animals that roam above ground. For every object destroyed a multiplier is gained that will help in increasing the player's score. It is possible for players to bounce off many objects in a row building up combo's resulting in a higher score. To keep the worm above ground, player can land on objects such as cars, tanks and helicopters bounce off of them up into the air. In Super Mega Worm, the player moves the worm around under the ground and makes it blast out through the surface and land on humans, animals and man made machines destroying them.
